Handmade Pasta, Historic Courtyard, Downtown Raleigh

Authentic Italian kitchen and full-service bar steps from the Capitol, open six evenings a week.

About Us

Outdoor dining area with a pool and warm lighting. — Mulino Italian Kitchen & Bar
Outdoor dining area with a pool and warm lighting.

The courtyard at Mulino Italian Kitchen & Bar stops people mid-sentence. A reflecting pool anchors the open-air patio on North Dawson Street, and on the right kind of Raleigh evening, dinner out there feels less like a restaurant and more like a piazza somewhere north of Rome. That combination of setting and substance has earned Mulino more than 1,500 reviews and a loyal following that returns for Mother's Day dinners, date nights, and everything in between.

The kitchen leans hard into what Italian cooking does best: handmade pasta, wood-fired pizza, and fresh seafood, all supported by a wine list curated specifically around Italian estate vineyards. The menu changes with the seasons, but the commitment to ingredients that actually taste like something stays constant. Servers here know the food, and guests consistently notice the difference.

Mulino sits in downtown Raleigh's Dawson Street corridor, which means it draws everyone from Capitol Hill professionals unwinding after work to couples marking anniversaries. The private dining room and full catering program make it equally at home for a corporate dinner or a rehearsal celebration. Monday is the one night off. Every other evening, the kitchen is ready.

What We Offer

Mulino covers the full range of Italian dining, from a quick cocktail at the full-service bar to a multi-course private event. Walk-ins are welcome, but reservations through OpenTable are the smarter move, especially Thursday through Saturday when the courtyard fills fast.

For groups and celebrations, private dining options include wedding cocktail hours, rehearsal dinners, corporate meetings, and special events with catering. The outdoor patio seats guests around the reflecting pool and is one of the most requested spots in downtown Raleigh for warm-weather gatherings. Gift cards are available for anyone who wants to pass the experience along.

Online ordering is available for guests who prefer to enjoy Mulino at home. Whether you're planning a table for two on a Tuesday or coordinating a seated dinner for fifty, the team handles both with the same attention.

"Our first time here was 4 years ago, it wasn't a good experience though we had a reservation it took them time to seat us, whatever we order from the menu the waiter say that they are out of it so we ended up ordering pizza. Last night we decided to give it a second chance. We made a reservation and requested to be seated by the pool. BRANDON took good care of us and recommended some doshes that we tried with red wine. It was good experience and definitely we'll go back."

"Date night with my daughter and we loved everything about it. The atmosphere was top tier as we sat outside in the courtyard by the reflecting pool on a comfortable night. We started with cocktails and the calimari and shrimp (Fritto Misto). It was fresh, flavorful and perfectly cooked. For cocktails, we had the Tropico Royale (rum) and Amalfi Holiday (tequila). Each precisely balanced and refreshing. For entrees we had the Seasonal Ravioli (spinach, cheese and pesto) and the Tagliatelle ( Bolognese: fresh pasta, beef and pork ragu). Both perfectly cooked, fresh and delicious. Our server Ben was attentive and friendly (while apparently doing double duty as bartender). We capped the evening with an absolutely rich and satisfying Vanilla Crème Brûlée, with an amaretto liqueur. A memorable date night with my daughter!"

"Had a lovely dinner here for Mother’s Day! The food was excellent, and our server was both knowledgeable and very welcoming. The outdoor dining area, centered around a beautiful pool-like fountain, offered a casual yet elegant and family-friendly atmosphere. The indoor space had a more intimate, candlelit vibe—perfect for a date night. Highly recommend!!"

"After years of this spot being on my to-do list we finally tried it out and it was pretty good, just pricier than I expected. The highlight of the night was definitely the charcuterie. It was one of the more well thought out and generous charcuteries I've personally had. Service was great and the ambience was quaint, although I didn't quite understand why seating outside was prioritized over inside, regardless it was a cool spot with authentic vibes. Main entrees were decent, but nothing overwhelmingly memorable, wine list and cocktails were certainly on point. Having the parking lot available in downtown really helped for an easy night."

"Came here on a not-so-busy Thursday evening for a date. I sat at the bar and had the Fibonacci, which was delicious. The ambiance of this restaurant was lovely, dark, and romantic. I adore the bar top design. After my date arrived and a few drinks later, we decided to sit outside for dinner at a table. It was a chilly night, so they had heaters facing the tables, and the outside matched the loveliness of the inside. I had the lasagna, which had that delicious classic Italian taste. The meal, cocktails, and wine were all perfect; my only gripe was the customer service. I felt like we were being rushed out, especially when the server interrupted us to ask if we were done."
